Ballistic results for extremely short barrels?

I wish not to rain on anybody's parade first off....

I just want to know if anyone has any data or test results of target material penetration, on 12 gauge short barrel ( 12 inch or less) shotguns....that they would not mind posting here?

Brutus, I did a few rounds over the chrono a few weeks ago and got 1250fps, the ammo gave 1550 in a 20" gun.....more to come tomorrow
The chrono is having its last meal as we speak ;)

My son hasn't picked up our (I paid for it but it's in his name) short 870 yet something about having to work and can't get over to pick it up...

Hi Guys

I JUST got back from 8 days on the road without internet access. I got to do the chrono testing at 15m using Federal 1 oz. Foster slugs, Remington Copper Solids and Remington Buckhammer 1 1/4 oz slugs.
I will post pics tomorrow as well as the actual data but IIRC the velocities were around:
Federal slug - 1150 fps
Copper Solid - 1160 fps
Buckhammer - 1185 fps Noticeably more recoil with this round.

I WILL POST PICS AND ACTUAL DATA TOMORROW!

I fired into dry compacted newsprint, (just because that was what I had on hand) which is known to be VERY hard on bullets. The Federal slugs flattened and broke apart, the Buckahmmer flattened but held together fairly well, and the Copper Solid held together without deformation or petal expansion.

Now the big question...did the chrono survive? Yes and no! It was hard but I managed not to shoot it, however one of the wads hit one sky screen and dented it....a littel TLC with the hammer and tape and it will be good as new.

The ballistic data is actually:
Federal slugs 1154 fps average of four rounds
Copper solid 1093fps average for two rounds
Buckhammer 1181 fps average of two rounds

LOL! Except that I am a fisheries biologist, I don't make the big bucks like those geologists do.

Finally got to run mine on the weekend :D . No rail covers on the foregrip -still boxed from my recent move so after 3 rounds of birdshot of put on a set of PAST gloves ( Wuss I am , I guess.) Ran 4 slugs through and got a 4 inch group - low left- at 25-30 yards or so. Then 40 or so rounds of birdshot just to getused to it - Extremely controllable (and Arnold in his Conan days I'm not) as long as you use the technique of pushing forward on the foregrip while pulling back on the pistol grip. ( it'll climb quite a bit - along the lines of a hot-loaded Ruger super blackhewk - with a weak hold , though. The forward strap works very well - in fact it forces you to have a good firm and slightly forward pressure on the foreend, since if it's too slack it can bind on the foreend when pumping back to eject the spent round and chamber a fresh round.

so for close range animal defense gun its approaching perfection:D . Obviously a lot of thought went into the design - and my thanks and congratulations to those who had a hand in it. This product deserves an award for Canadian design (may not happen in today's poisonous antigun atmosphere, but still the case). Hopefully the sales will reflect this.
