I'm looking for your experiences and opinions of the various "ballistic" hunting reticles available, the "Ballistic Plex", "Boone and Crockett" , TDS, etc.

Do they work as advertised, and are they effective for range estimation?

Or just another gimmick?

that would depend on whether or not you're willing to do the testing to find out what the marks mean in relation to the load you're shooting and the power it's set on...

I have 2 Leupold VX3 scopes with the BC reticles. They work awesome. Both are on WSM calibers. Each crosshair point in the scope co-relates to different yardage.

I just bought the new VX2 4-12x40 with the new LR duplex. Same concept as the Burris Ballistic Plex. I dont have this scope yet, so I cant comment on it yet.

Burris Ballistic Plex is sure no gimmick, it works!

I cant wait to buy the new VXII Leupolds with the ballistic plex reticles

Mildot is the most effective, Dragunov is the fastest, and I can't wait to get a range report of the new MP9 !

The most common one, however, is the Mildot. Bushnell makes a cheap one in the Trophy line. I used it and can't complain so far.
