Ballistic Silvertip or Game King?? Moose?

The game king can barely get through a paper target without coming apart.

You joking, right?
I have never had a single complaint of substance, but have had 100's of positive comments from the people I handload ammo for ever year, moastly in 308, 300 mag, and 7 mag, and most are using either Game Kings or Barnes.

Both bullets give one shot kills in any caliber.
I normally load the HPBT Game King in 165 grains for the 308's and lots of moose have been killled with this bullet, no two shot kills eoither, all one shots.

The 7 mags are loaded with 160 HPBT Game Kings, and thhe 300's 180 or 200 Game Kings.

I state that I've never had a complaint of substance, because the ones that complain about the Game King often go to other bullets and wound or miss animals withh them, eveen though they do alright at the range.

Shoot what you want I say, but make sure you can hit what you are shooting at.

shot 3 head of game (2 bear, 1 small mulie) at 60 - 270 yrds with 150gr .270cal gamekings. all one shot drops. all 3 bullets failed to exit, all 3 were recoved in over a dozen little peices.

eon;t use them again.

wow. you say they all dropped with one shot, but you found them in lots of pieces. seems to me they work fine. But i'm not one of theses guys that uses charts to determine my shells. I just pick 150gr for my .270 and go with it. Spend some time at the range to sight and then go hunting.

We had 2 moose this year. One shot with a .308 @150 yards with a 150gr. factory load (not sure of the brand) but the recovered bullets were in one piece. the second a 1300lb bull shot with a .270 @400-10 yards with 150gr factory loads (recovered bullet was in 2 pieces)

both fell within a few yards of were they were shot.

all were perfect "in the boiler room" shots. I would not want a poor angle quartering shot where i had to break bone if I was using a game king. it might work, but the meat loss would be unsastisfactory to me. I hunt for steak, not for a trophy, so a bullet staying together is of great importance to me.

I have not had that experience with Gamekings on moose. They have always held together great for me and are accurate. The only one I recovered had busted the spine of a bull moose at 300 yds, dropping him instantly. Perfect mushroom. Have shot em at much closer ranges with reliable pass throughs. Sierra prohunters are a different story. I have seen them come apart at close range on big game when pushed fast. I cannot speak for the experiences of others, but clearly we have had different experiences. All the more reason to try them for yourself.

I've taken 2 moose with gamekings from a 308. Both were one shot stoppers. From what I understand about silvertips, they are designed to open fast so on a big animal like a moose, you might not want that to happen. They would be good on deer. Something to consider.
