I have just acquired a couple of inexpensive PDA's (Palm and HP Ipaq) to run ballistic software only. I thought I would start cheap, try them both and see which does the job better for me. I could use some guidance/advice/suggestions about using these.

I am leaning towards Exbal as my software but again would welcome suggestions and advice. Also, is there any difference between Exbal and the Nightforce programme and which is better?

I appreciate any suggestions and ideas.

Exbal and the nightforce program are the same....just marketed different. Exbal works fine. I also use the software from patagonia software. Much more functional but more expensive. Nice thing about patagonia is the upfates are free. Can't say the same with exbal...

I run both the Horus Vision ATRAG MX2 and the Exbal on a Palm PDA. The Exbal is good enough for most application but has issues with the ballistic mathamatics at about 700m shooting a 175 SMK under 700m works like a charm BTW don't get the Palm unit get the HP Ipaq the OS software on Exbal will allow you to enter real corrections into the device the Palm PDA OS does not allow user input for corrections .I also use the Horus Atrag Mx2 great software not cheap but works like a dam.

has anyone used the Ballistic Pro for the Apple Ipod or I phone. Was looking into these as my wife and kids bought me a Ipod.

Cheers, Dino

Don't trust software, of any kind, alone. Too many variables. Never met a programmer who actually shoots. Never met a programmer who is a ballistics engineer either.

Pick me, pick me! ;-)

FWIW I don't know much about the various ballistics programs for PDAs. I did talk to the designer for "isnipe" and saw his app demo'd. He has done a good job of it (both software-wise, and also ballistics-wise). So I can and will say good things about "isnipe". I can't say anything bad about any of the others because I haven't seen or used any of them.

One thing I would do is to test the output of any PDA against JBM online ballistics or the Berger online ballistics tool (or the one that comes with Bryan Litz's book). If the PDA program's output disagrees with JBM/Berger/Litz, it's probably wrong.
