Ballistic Tips

I use nosler BT in my 25-06 work well on deer

I'm working with 200grn accubonds for the 300WM, long long bullets

I found that the lead tips on other bullets would get flattened out from recoil

They're one of my favourite bullets for varmint shooting, but I don't like to use them anymore for big game hunting. From my own experience they do more meat damage than other bullets. I've switched to TSXs for most of my hunting, but I would also use AccuBonds, InterBonds, etc. over regular Ballistic Tips, for big game hunting at least. Both my 222 and 22-250 love the Ballistic Tips though.

I like the Nosler BT's but they are too expensive to shoot. The odd time I will buy some BT's and load them up for a special hunt or something. 180g BT in a .308 is deer murder behind a green tip.

V'max's/Win sp in the .22cal's
Vmax's/SST in the 6mm's
I dont have a 6.5
Partitions/SST/Interbonds in the 7mm's
SST's\Interbonds in the .308

I have heard of their meat damage lack of penetration reputation. I tried the Winchester Balistic Silvertip version in a 270 WSM. I picked the 150s instead of the faster 130s. Seven deer in two seasons. Short to long range. No excessive damage, but I was carefully not to shoulder shoot. The only time I found fragments was deer at about 60 yards. Bullet seperated from jacket and left jacket behind. For some this may have seemed like bullet failure, but hard to argue with a dead deer!

The Nosler BT's have proven to have better POI consistancy at +200 yard ranges for all my centerfires over the V-max and A-max's...Top notch bullet for varmint hunting!

I have had alot of success with them on whitetails, in 6.5, 277, 284, and 308, cals all putting deer down to stay. However the hole can get rather large on the other side if ya push them fast enough or hit bone, but hey thats the shooter not the bullet. Have pushed a few straight though the deer behind the front with no meat danage, just a loony sized hole.
But at 2600-2900 feet per sec they hold up not to bad on deer.
I like them! and find accuracy to be as good as it gets with a thin jacketed hunting bullet.

I have switched much of my hunting loads to the Accubonds. And wold only use them for deer and smaller game.

I have used 180 gr inter bonds and accu bonds on deer, Iwas happy with them. They are very accurate, easy under 1/2" groups at 100 yrds. I have just loaded up some 180 gr sirrocco's that I plan on using for sheep.:)

Usually very accurate and the new gen bullets are identical to the accubond without the bonding.

Hunting weights will give you expected hunting softpoint bullet performance.

I shoot SST's as they 1/2 the price, just as accurate and work on anything I have had the pleasure of shooting.

Ive found the V-max quite amusing in the gopher patch with a 220 swift but didnt like using them on coyotes as they really made a mess of the fur.

I have used the Nosler CT Ballistic SilverTip Hunting 130 gr.s in my .270 and 270 wsm and have never lost a deer using them.

If I were to go for elk, moose, bear I think I would opt for a Barnes Triple Shock just for the fact of weight retention.

Absolutely love the 40 grainers in my .222 Rem -- very fur-friendly bullet for coyotes inside 200 yards.

Had two head-shaking experiences using a 100 grain BT in my .257 Roberts on whitetails. Recovered both deer, but decided to switch to a sturdier bullet. In one case, there was complete core separation and only 4 inches of penetration (albeit with bones involved). Switched to the Hornady 117 grain BTSP the following season, and had *much* better on-game performance. The BT's, though, shot the best groups that rifle has ever produced.

I always thought the BT were quite affordable !? I shoot them in my .280 (but am moving to the 140 gr Accubond). I did once shoot a coyote a 40 yards and the bullet fragmented on the shoulder before penetrating...I couldn't believe it. I now shoot them for pactice in my 300 Ultra, while using the accubond version for hunting. My buddy took a griz with a 140 BT from his 7mm mag. at 200 yards broadside right through the lungs...stopped it dead in its tracks.
