My wife got me a Benchsource Annealer for my b-day and I have yet to use it. I got the necessary accoutrements (Tempilaq, torches, etc.) and am going to try to get it done this weekend.

Does anyone have a ballpark time for Lapua 308 brass with the dual torch set up? I plan on working up to it just want to make sure to not start at 1 second if it is going to take much longer.

Thanks for any input.

STart at 3 and increase time as needed. But it really depends on the amount of heat those torches are putting out. Since this is a big variable, there can be no standard but the parameters to look for are consistent

That is a great video and illustrates how precise we need to be to get the job done right... a few tenths of a second between good and too much.

Enjoy

Th er e will be a difference between brass manufacturer
That is why I asked for Lapua but yes that will make a big difference.

I have watched that video before and when reading his post over on SH he really does not like the Tempilaq method. It is a well produced video.

A 3 second start time does seem to be what my research showed for a mid sized case so thanks for the replies.

Watch this video. Cheers

I setup my burn time exactly how he recommends

I did one case with tempilaq and it didn't do what I wanted it to do and then set it up according to the video.

I was right on the edge according to the video as about 1/2 the cases had the tiniest bit of orange flame right before it rotated out our the flame. My time was ~3.2 seconds. My brass is polished so I didn't get any of the nice annealed look on the finished brass but you can definitely feel the change when running it through the resizer.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Another question for the annealing pros out there.

I am now resizing my brass and there seems to be additional resistance when pulling the expander ball through afterwards. The case necks are lubed with the redding dry lube. I am still getting the cases through just requires a bit more force than required.

Thanks!
