bang for buck lever

I gotta go with Savage 99's followed by the vintage Marlins followed distantly by older Winchesters. IMHO I own lots of all 3 makes and still love my 99's

No doubt a marlin 336. Used ones are under $400 shipped to your door and base model new ones are around $500. There action is rock solid, and they a nice light gun to carry, plus they are easy to scope. Winchesters arent as robust or as smooth to cycle.

right now, aside from the blr, there is no PROPER "hunting" lever action- hunting means pointy bullets, and anything with a tube magazine can't take those- the "classic " lever is the savage 99 in 308- hows THAT for a purist?- the blr isn't really a lever,in that it uses a gear machanism between the lever and the bolt- in effect it's a lever gear driven bolt

So...I'm confused. My BLR Lightweight 81 is NOT a lever gun? I always thought if it looks like a lever, cycles like a lever, and the manufacturer even calls it a lever that it was, in fact, a lever. With a three lug locking rotary bolt head mind you...:)

I always wondered about that too. Yeah its a levergun. Besides look at the differences between the Savage 99C 308 (have one) and the Marlin/94. Not a lot similar there either. Then again not a lot of levers can pull off a larger cf cartridge. I like the DM on the Savage 99C and pointy boolits are its regular diet Browning makes a nice levergun-just dont take it apart.... :(.

And Michael Jacksons Thriller is the best selling album of all time;

Now THAT says something!

It is? Well s**t. cp:cp:cp:

But yeah OP try out the feel of a Win94/Marlin336/BrowningBLR/Savage99. They're all good guns but you have to pick the one that you like the most.

1. The BLR is a lever action.
2. The Savage 99, the Winchester 88, and the Sako Finwolf all use pointed ammo.
