"Bang for your Buck" Bolt Action

I'd say something older from Cooey, Lakefield / Mossberg. You can often buy one for $50 to $75 and they shoot great. Or do you want something new that you can mount a scope on?

depends what you value - i.e. - what do you mean by 'bang?'

A Cooper, for example, is exceptional value if you're looking for a custom gun, at about half the price of what it would cost to have one made to spec.

If you're looking for the cheapest gun that goes 'bang,' period, look for an old beater Cooey. Accuracy, fit, finish, etc will be lacking, but they're generally reliable.

Or, if you're looking for reliable and accurate, but not necessarily pretty, then a lakefield/mossberg/savage mark 2 is hard to beat. Any old mossberg, generally, is going to be reliable, accurate and relatively cheap.

Or, if you must have a brand new gun, a Savage mk2 F would be my first choice, but I hear good things about Marlins.

Or, the cheapest of the 'premium' bolt guns, the ever popular CZ series. A step up from them would be things like the Browning A or T bolt, or the Ruger 77/22. Used options include Brno's, Remington 504's, Winchester 52's and repros, or possibly 69's.

Then there are the semi-autos, but I don't know much about them because most of the ones I've tried have been unsatisfactory for a variety of reasons. The buckmark carbine is the only semi .22 that I've tried that I actually like (and I've tried pretty much every semi that's currently available)

Hello. IMO it's an easy one. Zastava's Z-5. Exceptional metal work, fully adj trigger, good open sights, sturdy and superior accuracy. Wood work need some help but you can work it out at home. IMO vastly superior to alot of stuff found on our market and i did own quite a few. Here's mine.

Good luck in your search.

My choice would be a "shooter grade" Winchester Model 69A. They have an adjustable trigger and finding one with a grooved receiver will save having to drill and tap it. Remington also made a number of different inexpensive .22 bolt action repeaters.

I agree with dugasgunner. The Zastava Z5 is a great deal .I bought a 22 mag and was more than impressed with it. I mounted a 3.5-10x50 Hawke scope on it. Trigger is as adjustable as anyone will ever need. I got mine down to 2 lbs. Metal work was great. Steel clip, not plastic. Feels like a centerfire rifle when you mount it. Wood needs to be refinished as it isn't up to what I like. I'm going to get a 22 LR as well. The 22 mag shot a ragged hole at 50 yds off of a not solid bench with 30 Gn Vmax loads.
Not bad for $300
I was told they will be available later this year in 17 HMR as well. I'll probably get one of those too. Gotta have the whole set !!!!!
I've had alot of 22's over the years and this was one that I was impressed with.

Forgot to mention.
The Zastava Z5 was sold as the Remington Model#5 and Charles Daly Special. Zastava was manufactuing them for Remington with a laminated stock and for Charles Daly with a solid walnut stock. Supposed to be the same gun sold under different names.
So this isn't something new ,they've been around for a while. I haven't read a bad review yet .

Just my opinoin.
