First one of the season..........small write up in the black bear sticky thread, first entry. Is there a prize for being the first?

Taken at approx. 400 mtrs, above the top of my pasture with a Remington 700 CDL 7mm RUM using 160 gn ABs at a ridiculous velocity. Scoped with a Leupold 4-12X40 Vari X II IIRC. Took the top 2" off the heart, he blang/flopped then jumped up and ran 50 feet where I found him by following a huge trail of lung, actually I drove my Ranger up to him, could see him lying there no tracking involved.
I had a good rest on the corner post of my porch.........tough hunt all things considered.........

Awff the fruck'n poorch?
Awwsum ............................... only miss'in izz the terkey..............

Well done Douglas.

Cawt me first two fish yesterday ...........well of this year.

Ya NL-H, he's all of that maybe even 350, he was carrying a lot of fat, I was surprised. Took 3 of us to get him in the back of the Ranger..........I'm stiffer than hell today, haven't skinned a bear in probably 15 years, #1 son has always taken care of it as he just loves skinning stuff.........He's a good bear though, about 19" and squared 6 1/2 ft so he's a goodun'........................course I'm used to Yukon bears not B.C. bears, I guess he's just fair for down here.............

Fat this time of year is unusual. Season opener is May 7, will try to get out early, but chances are May 24 will be the time.

Saw on FB this evening an outfitter has captured three 500 + lbs bears on trail camera this year, should be a good season.

How to you do the bear? Sausage, steaks ???

Can you whack your next one with one of your bigger caliber guns? I'd love to see a nice black or brown bear with a .375 or bigger hole in em' . Great shooting by the way. Gotta love home porch advantage!!

I would have thought after the "Gonna BANG a deer" thread, you would have changed you terminology...

Good shot Douglas... also "good on you" for having at least one rifle of 150 sighted in and ready to go...

BBQ time!

Yep Hoyt, not only is it sighted in and ready to go (I've actually got 1/2 dozen sighted in and RTG lately) it lives in my porch and I have a 6.5X55 with a Leup 3-9X40 that lives in my shop now. One never knows when one may experience a close encounter, with bears or deers or elks or coyotes or wolves...............better to be prepared than disappointed..........

Congrats on getting a nice blacky ! I guess the accubond would of went right thru hitting it in the lungs? Too bad I would of liked to see a pic of it.. Some good eats there. Room left in the museum for a rug or mount?

Gonna get him tanned for sure but still not big enough for mount or rugging...........waiting for a true monster. The AB did not exit but I never looked for it yet, only one hole on the inbound side, in the hide............gonna try some meat tonight so I'll have to do a little forensics and see if I can find what's left of the bullet. Fair bit of blood shock on the opposite rib cage but I didn't see an exit when I peeled him, so it should be there somewhere, you'd think with a 400 mtr impact there should be something left..........
