Banged Another Bear Yesterday......

.340 Wby!

That will work as well............I think I have to finish testing loads for that one. Had some 225 AB loads for it but then I got some 240 gn Matrix RBT spritzers for it and never got back to it..........IIRC. I'll have to see what I have for it. Not sure the wife can handle the 340, she's the only one with tags left at this point..........;);)

In BC that's exactly like we all thought and did, until about twenty years ago.
Then the anti's made a major push to stop shooting bears, so the government reclassified the bears from varmints to game, putting the restriction on them that the hide must be taken.
The anti people then demonized "trophy hunting," shooting bears for their hide, so an accommodating provincial government ruled you could leave the hide, but must take the meat.

And now will also be the case with grizzly hunting as of next year....

I too have a problem with domesticated bears at our cabin. Usually have dispose of a couple a year however ay much closer range. My wife while doing yard work has had to shoot a couple with her 260. They dropped right there, I have used 45-70 with cast loads a couple with to 260 and 9.3 x 62 and 7mm mag as I recall. For you interest the 45-70 did the worst job of making a quick killWE have a cabin on 95 acres along the North Sask river. never leave garbage out to attract them but they find us and most are disposed of at 15 td maximum. Weekend before last one came into our yard while I was on the deck. Grabbed a rifle and went to within 10 yards and shouted at him He finally turned and walked towards the bush so I but a 9.3 low behind him to speed him on his way. I was feeling guilty about shooting them and wanted to warn him off. WE left to visit a friend and came back an hour to see him (or another bear) hightailing it into the bush. He moved my rocker, kinda shredded my shirt hang on an outside hook and took off when the truck pulled in.
9.3 in the right eye stopped him. Only the bold unsecured have to go. A couple of examples. While cutting the grass on a riding mower a bear came and I chased him on the riding mower He just went into the fringe of trees. I turned around and he came out again from a different place. I started shouting to warn my wife he was there and parked the mower and went to get the 9.3 from the cabin and came .you could here him moving around us a and he came out from behind where we were.
I,ve had them come up within 10feet of me while having a beer after cutting the grass.. ( maybe they are attracted to lawnmowers)When I tried to chase him off and then went for a rifle he had just circled a shed to get behind me.
These may not seem serious but we often have small children visiting us and I would hate to think of what would hame if a 3 yrs old screamed and started to run

AS far as I,m concerned a bear that looses fear of people and does not turn when he encounters people is a potential problem bear. Most of these guys are younger (teen ager) bears of about 5'plus and over 200 #. Have trail cam pictures showing bigger ones passing through when we are not but they don.t get into any mischief.

I don't give a rat's ass I shoot every bear that trods on my property and gives me an opportunity to terminate them..........I just don't necessarily tell everyone about it...........I have a backhoe.........SSS

Safe to say they are digging a hole for themselves by entering your property. ;) No other way to discourage them from entering.

What I said last post is not actually true.........I had a sow with 2 cubs that spent most of the summer here a couple years back. She took over the kid's tree fort over in my horse pasture in a stand of big cedars. She posed no problems for us at all and was exceptionally shy. Outside of bear season, they get a lot more leeway and unless they do something to upset me I just usually let the dog chase them off.......If however they become habitual, and start busting up my apple and cherry trees, or chasing my dog, they aren't likely to see the next snowfall.
