I bought a Leupold vari -x 1 years back and have had no trouble with it at all.

I was wondering though, what kind of hit/bang can a scope like mine take before you worry.

To be more clear, I had my rifle in a padded case in the back seat of my buddies truck. We got the truck stuck and with the back and forth of getting the truck out and leather seats, the rifle slipped onto the floor. I took it out tothe range ans was a littlke higher than I what I set it at but the windage was fine.

I've often wondered what the difference is between the energy of the bullet discharge and dropping a scoped rifle.

Anyone have any insights?

I have a Bushnell Legend on a 10/22 that was leaning up against the wall and was knocked over onto the carpeted floor. It has a 16" barrel, so the fall wasn't that far. It bent the scope (which I didn't know at the time). I sent it back for repair and it wasn't warrantied. They returned it, I set it on the counter and gave it a little press and it's back on the 10/22 and shoots just fine. Getting back to your question...the Bushnell I have is as tough as cooked spaghetti. Leupolds I'm sure are built better.

Your Leupold went through more testing than you could ever show it, (pounded at high G's 5000 times and pressure tested) inside a case, you would have to work pretty hard to knock it out, would have more to do with the mounting than the scope. I have seen them come out of tree stands and fall 40 feet with no trouble at all. If there is any trouble, remember that there is no trouble getting it fixed at no cost to yourself, see top sticky on optics page.

Forgot to tell ya, After the sh#@ kicking my rifle took bouncing around in the case on our trail to camp three weekends in a row, I fired three quick shots off at the range and all three were touching! I guess the three inches left the gun was shooting after the first trip in was due to something else. Human error most likely.
