I was at my local gun shop today and the owner was telling me that he has heard of a law originating out of the United States they are pushing to get signed. Reportedly they are attempting to get an international agreement with Canada and other countries generally allied with the United States. They want these countries to ban the import of firearms from China, Russia, Czech Republic, and countries which fire the 7.62x39 cartridge. They also want banned imports of 7.62x39 corrosive ammunition. They are looking to slow the spread of this cheap ammunition in favor of countries adopting the .233 US cartridge.

Hope this is false but if there is any truth to this than we need to be aware of it and take steps to stand against this ridiculous proposal. Has anyone heard of a proposed law which would affect our freedom to buy this ammunition?

who he can and can not sell ammo to

My money is on the russian.

Lets not forget who our PM is, i dont see him signing something like that, he hates obama.

We should start a collection of all the best rediculous rumours that store owners start.
We could even award prizes for the most outlandish rubbish.:)

this is what i have heard recently ;

'HP ammo is illegal'
'You cant transport loaded mags with your restricted"

The first couple times I tried to educate them, now laugh...and cry a little on the inside..

He told me that there is presently a large shipment of 7.62x39 enroute by ship to Canada but this would be the last. Don't know who his source was, and I was certainly skeptical. He stated the angle was to go after corrosive ammo in general which is of course a big draw for these firearms. Can't see the Conservatives agreeing to this.............. Liberals yes, especially if they paint corrosive ammo in some negative light. Most Canadians do not know or care about this ammunition so how much resistance would there be? They could pass the law with very little public knowledge. Anyway thought I would post and ask the question ............. better safe than sorry.

With the large dealers we have on this forum I'm sure someone would have heard something if it was true. Last thing I want to hear is we could lose our source of cheap ammo to some political wheeling and dealing.

so they want to ban the import of legal sporting firearms because they are either currently communist or were ex-combloc countries? sounds kinda fishy.

also the Czech republic is a NATO ally and is part of the EU, also they have troops in Astan as part of ISAF. what better way to piss then ally then kill a part of its exported product.

Sounds like the guy was trying to make a sale. I could understand this ban back in the days of the heat of the cold war, but nowadays?...

Actually there is a proposal being put to the EPA to ban ALL "toxic" ammo, ie anything with lead in it. I think the groups proposing it hoped it would fly under the radar till made into law, but they have been spotted and are being zeroed in on.

Thanks for replies everyone; have to pick up a gun part in near future from same store, I'll pass on the collective conclusion his source is ill informed at best.
