Banning Employees from wearing Poppies........

This is what happens when the people making the decisions have never been shot at, or had to endure the hardships of war. It’s really quite pathetic the way Canada is headed. These great men and woman went to war to stop the senseless slaughter of millions of innocent people. They deserve the utmost respect, and remembrance. Anyone who says otherwise should be kicked out of Canada.
 
Terrible.

I'd boycott them also, but I never go there.

I guess their audience isn't the type who would serve in the military, so I'm not sure it really matters.

Hopefully these employees can find better jobs than Whole Foods and say goodbye to them.
 
Seems there's a bit of a Sht storm happening on their Facebook page. As well Doug Ford is on Instagram expressing his disgust in what they're doing and commenting about possibly passing legislation forbidding employers from disallowing their employees from wearing poppies.

Symbol of remembrance does not conform to dress code, company says

Whole Foods Market store in Ottawa on Thursday. The company has confirmed to CBC that, under a new uniform code, employees are not allowed to wear poppies.


Less than a week before millions of Canadians are set to pay their respects to veterans by wearing a poppy, a national grocery store chain has banned its employees from wearing the symbol of remembrance while on the job.

U.S.-based Whole Foods Market says poppies aren't allowed under its recently updated uniform policy, which affects employees at its 14 locations across Canada.

But the company won't say why.

An employee of the Whole Foods in Ottawa says she was told by a supervisor that wearing the poppy would be seen as "supporting a cause."

"I was basically told … if they allowed this one particular cause, then it would open up the door so that they would have to allow or consider allowing other causes," said the employee. CBC News has agreed not to name her as she is concerned about reprisals at her job.

"I was in shock actually. I was appalled. I couldn't believe it."


An employment lawyer says the poppy could be considered a display of a political belief and thus not fall under Ontario's Human Rights Code, leaving it up to employers to decide whether to allow employees to wear one. (CBC)
She said in the past few years, she's been able to wear a poppy — a symbol of remembrance that hearkens back to the First World War — while on the job. But this year was different.

The Whole Foods uniform consists of an apron, coat or vest, a hat and name badge.

A poppy does not comply with that policy, the company confirmed, but did not provide a reason why.

The first poppies were distributed in Canada in 1921. The donations they bring in are an important source of revenue for the Royal Canadian Legion that goes toward helping ex-servicemen and women buy food, and obtain shelter and medical attention.

But legion branches across Canada have been struggling from loss of revenue due to the pandemic and some have expressed fears this year's poppy campaign will bring in significantly fewer donations.

"We are thankful for the many partners and retailers like Whole Foods who contribute in various ways to the National Poppy Campaign," said Danny Martin, director of corporate services at the legion's national headquarters, in a statement.

"While retailers must set their own corporate policies, unless there are safety concerns we do encourage wearing poppies at all times as a show of respect for our Fallen, and as a symbol that helps educate Canadians about the sacrifices of our Veterans."

An Ottawa employee said workers were allowed to wear the symbol in previous years and questions why they are not given the choice this year.
Wearing a poppy could be considered a display of a political belief, according to employment lawyer Alex Lucifero with the firm Samfiru Tumarkin, and thus, would not be protected under the Human Rights Code in Ontario.

However, human rights codes in other provinces may be different, he says.

Lucifero says Whole Foods might have valid health and safety reasons for not allowing employees to wear a poppy, because the poppies "are pins, with needles, there might be a health and safety risk there."

But, he added, it is "generally speaking, not good PR for an employer to take a position like this."

Whole Foods, which is owned by Amazon, says it is supporting the legion by donating more than $8,000 to the poppy campaign. It also said employees at each of its stores will observe the traditional moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

But the Ottawa employee doesn't feel that's enough.

"We're talking about people who have sacrificed their lives and families, people who have lost you know, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters … People have died for our country to keep it safe and to keep it free and this is the one time of year we get to honour them and say 'Thank you. Thank you for everything you have done,'" she said.

"I can't believe that anybody is telling me that I'm not allowed to do that, that I'm not allowed to do this one simple, little token of my appreciation, of my thanks."

I guess it is ok for F*gs to come out and promote same ### everything but not ok to wear a poppy. All these fvcking companies holding their hands out for govt funding but its not ok to support the people who supported our nation since 1867? This is why we will loose the next war!

This is also what happens when the person making decision isn't located in the country where that decision is going to be implemented.
I've worked for two US based companies that operated satellite offices in Canada. The person in the US has 0 insight into the significance of things here. And fro the most part they don't care either...

The media backlash is catching them totally off guard right now and a PR team is scrambling to draft communications to diffuse it.

They will absolutely change their position but one VP isn't getting a bonus this year.
 
I myself have never shopped at Whole Foods. However I never will now. I have a substantial pile of Amazon gift cards. I will spend them to get the money back. Then no more Amazon for me. Unless they redact their idiotic policy and apologize profusly. Just a vet who minds his own business, until someones business minds me!
 
FWIW politicians across the spectrum are coming out hard against this, even Jagmeet Singh came out hard. This won't last. Worst case scenario they'll end up saying they need to wear the sticker, not the pin version.

Jagmeet had to come out hard. The liberal Boot Licker had to step up beside Turdeau saying Whole Foods is "silly".

The Leftist attempts to erase our history and culture continue to chip away.. occasionally as in this instance some socialist miscreant trying to take another chip out of us, misjudged what they could get away with. Unfortunately we seem to be losing the cultural war, as the left dominates the main stream media, big tech, hollywood/entertainment, and our educational systems.

The reaction by most people to something like this gives me a sliver of hope though.
