Just finished up my 25-06 in a Bansner, 7lb 8oz as it sits. Homegrown paint jobs on both stocks.
Other stock in second pic is a Rimrock just waiting for my FN actioned 35 whelen to come back from parkerizing. That one will wear a vxll 2x7 and should be done soon.
Even managed to keep my feet out of the pics!

Rimrock goes right about 29-30 ounces. Very nice feel to it, comes checkered and with the decelerator installed for something like $225 US plus shipping. Little smaller around the grip than the Bansner and not quite as open a grip. Feels excellent for offhand shooting.
Had it in less than 2 weeks right from Bordens..

Looks great, are you using Krylon webbing or have you found something better?

I'm right in the middle of re-doing my Hi-tech specialties stock and wouldn't mind doing some webbing but don't want krylon to touch my rifle.

I put a Bansner on my 270Win SPS. I like these stocks alot and may do the same in a 35Whelen. :)

I couldn't find webbing here in SJ, so I used Krylon OD with a bit of black overspray to darken it up a bit.

Sorry Brambles, missed your post. I used a webbing spray I got from Canadian Tire, not Krylon brand but it was actually a Sherwin Williams product I believe. Took me a while to find some in a store!

Bansner stocks are the real deal.
I don't mind the extra finishing involved to tune them up.I am waiting on a sheephunter for my 7mm SAUM.It should finish up so nice!!!RB

My sheephunter required a bunch of work on the inletting, I think I got a bad stock because from what I hear most people are satisifed with the way the inletting is out of the box. Took quite a while but everything fits nice now. The barrel channel is large and on my mountain rifle there is generous room around the barrel. I don't want to add weight by filling it in since its my packin gun so I will leave it the way it is.

The real nice thing is my stock seems to really suck up the recoil and with the custom LOP it fits me really nice.

Just finished priming it this evening, finish sanding should be done soon and the top coat can go on. Still trying to get and idea of what colors to go with.

Decisions, decisions HHHMMMMM

The inletting one mine was very good from the factory. I will buy another. :)

The bbl channel on mine is big as well. There looks to be almost enough room for a magnum contour as there is lots extra around the standard sporter in mine.

My first bansner was a sporter mdl 700.
The #5 contour barrel on that rifle filled the barrel channel nicely. This sheep hunter is going to need some channel filling, but not bad as the 7mm SAUM has a magnum contour barrel which is a #4 IIRC.Before I ordered the stock my smith showed me the sheephunter with the magnum bbl on board.some work but acceptable.
Brambles my smith has mentioned using a half weight epoxy that hot tub retailers use for repairs.I have'nt looked into it yet,but when every ounce counts.RB

Pat,

Those look great. I hope your SPS shoots as well as mine does. It should be even better, mine is in the takeoff Ti stock so not as stiff as yours.

Bedded action and floated barrel, mine is averaging under 1/2" with 75 grainers. Just getting started playing with the heavier bullets, but so far it makes me wonder why I bother with a $2,000 custom when this is just as good!

I was toying with the idea of just filling the top edges and front and therefore making it look like its filled but leave the bottom and majority of the sides open.

However I think its nice to have a generous amount of room that way you can dig out any twigs or leaves that may have found there way in there and less of a chance that the debris that you may have picked up during your hunt will affect the accuracy when the time come to make the once in a lifetime shot. I don't know maybe I'm on crack????????

Looks worse in the pictures than it really is, kind of grows on you after a while:rolleyes:

Rick, I've done a bit of shooting with 117 Hornady's and early indications are 3 shots easily under 1" @ 100 yards, closer to 3/4". Haven't worked with any light bullets as this one is meant for deer hunting. It is a very easy caliber to shoot as the recoil is "insignificant".
I know what you mean about higher priced buildups though. I have a 7 mag in progress and the 35 whelen is almost finished (maybe a 3 position safety and metal finishing).

Now your good at it BRO you can help me paint 3 Mcmillans hahahaha.
I definitely see an opportunity for painting stocks here on CGN as a sideline, as long as it's not doing new Marlins in walnut over with bed-liner. :)
