BAR comments

So which gunsmith in Canada works on BaR?

If someone wanted to put a match grade barrel?

I'm sure any decent smith could do it ........ for the right price . If your looking for an edge accuracy wise , there is the Browning FNAR . A good friend of mine has one . With loads it likes , it's a very accurate rifle . They're a bit scarce , and expensive , but they do come up every now and then .

FNAR barrel length is too short.

They should have built one with 26" Proof Barrel.

You would be lucky to break 2600 fps with gas operated 308 in 20 inch barrel.

How is the Benelli R1s compared to the BAR? Better, worse, about the same?

I did comparisons of the 2 for my brother a couple months ago who was looking at the bar. If it were me I'd go with the R1. The comfortech stock and magazine were the 2 main reasons why. Pick either a detachable mag or one with a plate, not both. Hated it on an old a-bolt I had but some guys like them. Reviews from guys that had both also stated the R1 balances better and has better made internal parts. The advantage of the bar is could be slightly more accurate but for hunting purposes not big enough to be an issue, and the bar with wood stock is much prettier than the R1. Price wise I think they are within $100-$200 of each other, depending on model. Both are excellent rifles, just a matter of personal preference.

I picked up an older BAR Type 1 in .338WM, and wanted to put a new barrel on. Talked to many smiths and all said no way they could do it.

* I spoke with a company in the US today, MidWest I think was their name and they sell the parts but he advised to "make dam sure" the Smith has worked on a BAR before.

I haven't handled a BAR rifle but my HiPower pistol is "Made in Belgium Assembled in Portugal" and the quality is nothing to be concerned about.

I had a few flat out refuse to even try a rebarrelling, or indeed do anything with the gas system. I gave up finding someone in Canada to do it. The barrel extension and gas system seems to scare alot of guys.
