BAR jammed open

My dads bar in 243 jammed open the other day. He is "forgetful" when it comes to cleaning. Could it be jammed cause its dirty? Or is there a history of these jams...and when I pick it up from him should i take it straight to the gunsmith or is it easy enough to clean/take apart when its jammed.

If you have to ask, it's best you don't try and take it apart... if you are technically inclined you can disassemble it all and clean the gas port and you may even find out why it jammed...
 
Hey guys. I have taken bars apart many times to clean just never one that was jammed. Gunrunner you were 100% right.... the timing latch pin was in three pieces. Good call. Off to find a pin now.
