Looks like APEX and Bar-Sto have teamed up to make some killer new barrels for the M&P9!

Release at SHOT 2012!

Someone better be importing these!

Would it be too much trouble to get a Canadian to import some APEX sh*t? It's the Gucci accessory right now, you retailers are missing out!

I dream of my M&P being a better gun........ need .....new...... fancy ....barrel.

I've been waiting 18 months to see these (seriously) they're supposed to be available as a machine-in gunsmith fit barrel. Anyone hear anything about the oversize locking block and sear housings Randy was talking about??

Not yet, but anything that makes the M&P easier to completely dissassemble is a great thing.

Sounds like the new M&P's in the next couple of years will be heavily redesigned to fix the few flaws they have.

Great guns, but a few glaring issues.

I'd buy a Glock if my M&P wasn't so damn reliable.

The idea was that they'd be oversize in the 'wing' area that the slide rides on, so you could fit the slide to the frame, and then have the barrel machined in - like an accurized 1911, remove all of the slop, and have some room to polish the contact surfaces for a smooth, repeatable cycle, and with the fitted barrel everything would lock up really tight. Mine has a couple of thousandths at one end, and maybe as much as a hundredth at the other.

Why do you need a new barrel? I like my M&P9 the way it is, sights, trigger, barrel etc.

With the exception of the long pull on the trigger reset I like the M&P the way it is as well. Much better pistol overall than the Glock...in my opinion. I've got both so this isn't second hand or internet biased opinion.

In 9mm M&Ps, the barrel unlocks from the slide very early in the cycle, which causes some (but not all) of them have serious accuracy problems. The new Apex/Bar-Sto barrel is supposed to have revised locking surface geometry to correct this.

Even with all that dreaming it wont become a Glock....:D

Thank heaven for that....:p

Has anyone tried the Storm Lake M&P 9mm barrel? Just wondering how they are performing?

I have a .40 cal Storm Lake barrel for my .357 Auto M&P...imported by Questar at considerable expense. It's extremely well finished, but the chamber was pretty tight, and I had some trouble shooting commercial-quality reloads in it. A little gunsmith tweaking made it much better. If M&P barrels became a stock item at Questar or somewhere else, I'd seriously consider getting the 9mm conversion barrel for my 357/40 gun.

All of the above doesn't really answer your question, except as a general modified thumbs up...sorry.

Put the Apex Competition Kit in your gun and you will reduce the reset significantly. I am not sure I would want my PRO to be any shorter, after the installation.

I am going to install the RAM in my PRO as I have read some positive reviews from guys who have installed the RAM.

Take Care

Bob
