Found a couple rifles in the livery of an old barn an old-timer had us tear down for him this past summer. He let me take them as part payment for the work. Don't know much about sportered Mausers and I can't find a whole lot of info online as far as action type and vintage used by this particular maker.
It's a Sedgmoor Eng. "Alpine Model Special" manufactured in Edgewater England. Chambered in 30-06, 23" barrel, and as can be seen in the pics, it's pretty rough.
Someone shaved down the bolt knob presumably for scope clearance. A SIN is electro-pencilled on the receiver ring and bottom metal. There is some minor pitting on the barrel and it's D&Ted for bases. The recoil pad is roached, stock is cracked and fit-up is very loose.
Aside from all that, cycling the action, working the safety etc, everything works as it should. Internals have no rust/corrosion or pitting, except for a patch on the extractor (as shown in the pic below). The bore is shiny and rifling is excellent.
I'd like to get rid of it but don't know what its value would be, whether it's a lost cause (parts gun) or if it'd make a decent project rifle.
Would appreciate any info from folks who know their Mausers. Thanks in advance.
