Hi, I'm wanting to switch to solid copper in my 7mm Rem Mag. I picked up a box of 145grn Barnes LRX rounds. I have a few pounds of IMR 4350 left over from the other loads that worked well in my rifle. The trouble is the Barnes load data does not list a recipe for IMR4350 with the 145LRX bullet. I have found load data for IMR 4350 with 150grn Barnes ttsx and the copper Hammer bullets HHT 145grn. Both of those bullets are longer than the 145LRX.

I've never reloaded without a specific recipe to start from before, I'm looking for advice on what you guys think would be a reasonable starting powder weight would be. Ideally I'm looking to work up to and end up with about 3100fps for the 145LRX. I'll put the Hodgdon and Hammer load data below. Thanks for any help.

Hodgdon website lists:

Bullet: 150 GR. BAR TTSX-BT Diameter: 0.284" Case: Winchester Primer: Winchester LRM, Large Rifle Magnum - C.O.L. 3.225"

IMR 4350 - Starting Load 58.9grn - 2,856fps - 49,800 PSI Max Load - 63.7grn - 3,059fps - 59,300psi

You're already looking at data for copper bullets, so you're like half way there. 5 grains difference in bullet weight isn't a big deal, especially if you're using a bullet that's lighter than the book. Just start low and work your way up. Copper bullets can be more pressure sensitive than lead bullets so keep that in mind. It is not unusual to hit pressure signs at a lower powder charge than you would with a similar weight lead bullet. 3100 might be doable in your rifle, only one way to find out...

Be careful using Hammer load data for anything but Hammers. They have a reduced barring surface which gives lower pressures that traditional copper bullets. You can definitely safely use the Barnes 150gr ttsx info for the LRX. Like Suther stated your using a lighter bullet. As always work your way up and find what it likes best.

If you use data for the 150grTTSX you will be fine. And those COLs listed in a manual don't mean much fir ykur rifle, start .050" off of the lands
