I'm told these beggers fowl up a bore pretty quick due to the copper softness..I'm not a real fan of moly coating, cause if you ask me that just ads another variable..I have given the bore a light lapping due to the way ruger tends to be rough...Anyone have thoughts on this?ie things you have tried to reduce fowling. Thanks

You might find the TSX fouls less than the older style X bullet. Make sure you start with a clean barrel, and clean a little more often. I generally try to clean every 50 rounds now. I let "Wipe-Out" work in the barrel over night - patch it out in the morning and I'm good to go.

I've used Barnes coated bullets in the wife's '06 and my .375, but I'm not sure if they actually reduced fouling. The Triple Shocks are so wonderfully accurate, I won't go back to the coated bullets, once I've used them up.

I shoot Barnes bullets all the time and they work so well, but there is a need to clean the rifles more often. Live with it. I shoot 3 shot groups for hunting rifles. I always shoot one shot to foul the bore, then 3 for group and have a spare for just in case you have an "aw ####" shot. after that I clean and start again.
Carry on!

I used to use the 350 X in my .416 RM, and there is no way I would have gone 50 rounds before cleaning. I usually cleaned every 10-15 shots, and even then it was a bugger to get everything out. Mind you, this was ~10 years ago, so the regular X may have changed since then.

Ya,I was wondering, cause even when I drive the speer hotcor 350's over 2700 I can watch accuracy crap after 15 0r so

I use Barnes 160 TSX in my .280 rem, and yes they do fowl a touch more but they are the most accurate pill I've found. I try and do a light cleaning every 5 to lessen the chore at the end of the session, but firing a full 20 is entirely realistic. I use Barnes solvent or Sweet's 762 for cleaning. I think I may try the knockout stuff as mentioned previously.

I think to give the bullet a fair test that you need to find a wet test medium. The X is designed to open hydralically, and when you shoot into ice you are essentially shooting into a dry medium.

You guys must have rough bores, or I just got lucky with mine...I don't need to clean as often. In any case Wipe-Out continues to amaze me.

When I fired my .416 into newsprint at 100 yards it opened beautifully; like I said, that was ~10 years ago.

Last year I fired 270gr TSX into newsprint at 90 yards. Loads were chronographed at +2600 fps. The bullet hardly opened at all.
