I have recently joined the reloading world. I purchased a Tikka T3 in 222 remington. I loaded up some loads awhile ago and finally got to the range last weekend to try them out. They were 222, 20.5 gr of IMR4198 and 50 gr hornady sx. Shot unbelieveable, for my first loads. I won the shoot.

Anyways, enough of the horn blowing, I have some Barnes 36gr Varmit grenades I would like to try to load. I have looked at a few reloading manuals but cannot find data on light bullets like these. I am wondering if anyone else could share with me what they might be using. Right now I only have IMR4198, BL-C (2) and H322 powder.

Thanks for now.

Please post up how you made out. I'm wanting to load some up for 22-250 as well. I hear I can get them to 4400fps then I'll take em out and see what the gophers think of them.

Benchmark From 23.5 grains to 25.0 grains
H-322 From 23.5 grains to 25.2 grains
H-4198 From 20.5 grains to 22.0 grains
H-4227 From 15.0 grains to 17.2 grains
IMR-4198 From 18.7 grains to 21.8 grains
IMR-4227 From 15.0 grains to 17.4 grains

All with Remington 7-1/2 Primer

Use data for 40gr bullets - or the Hodgdon's Manual lists 35gr V-max loads.

I've loaded 36gr Varmint Grenades for the 222 using:

15.5gr IMR 4227 - great accuracy!
20.0gr IMR 4198 - very good
20.0gr H322 - good accuracy - well within 'minute of ground hog'

* H322 is still my favourite powder for the 222 using 40-50gr bullets.

These were all seated to an OAL of 2.150"

Good luck - SD

When they were available I tried some of Clint Starkes 36 grain Red Prairie Varmint Bullet. They were moly coated and gave me some crazy velocity out of my Sako .222. I used Reloader 7 and was getting 3600 fps. I remember it being a compressed load, but the accuracy wasn't anywhere near the potential of the rifle.

I have since shot IMR 4198 and H-322 with 52 and 53 grain match bullets with outstanding results.
