I'm going to start loading up some Barnes for hunting this year but after looking at the web site, there are about 3-4 different type of X brand's, some with HP and Ballistic tips. What are some of you CGN'ers using and what are some of the advantages or disadvantages if there are any???

I'm just getting into Barnes in three calibers and going with TTSX. A coupleof guys that have helped with good info and suggestions are BC Sportsman and todbartel. Perhaps give them a shout.
I've been shooting the regular TSX for a number of seasons and I'm more than happy with both the accuracy out of my own rifle, and how they perform on game. Generally speaking I won't take a shot that is over 350 yards or so, so I don't think that the TTSX would offer me personally any advantage. So.... I just stick with the original TSX.
These are you choices for big game bullets from Barnes.
- The original "X" are discontinued.
- The TSX is now there "standard" bullet and the most available in different caliber. It is an excellent bullet providing good expansion and awesome penetration.
- The TTSX is a polymer tipped TSX that fairly new (second season this year I believe). People have reported pretty much the exact same performance as the TSX. The polymer tip is to increase the BC and promote quicker expansion which never really was an issue. It is still fairly new and only availble in the more popular calibers and weight.
- The MRX is also a polymer tipped TSX but with a tungsten core. The idea was to have a shorter bullet by adding a tungsten core (which is heavier than pure copper). It is expensive and never really took off. I would expect it to dissapear in the next couple year.

I have killed animals with the TSX and with the MRX,and hunting partners also have killed game with the TSX.Three of us will be using the TTSX this fall,In all cases,they are accurate in our rifles,and copper fouling is virtually non existent.They expand well and easily out penetrate heavier partitions.
If they are available in your chosen caliber/desired weight, then go for the TTSX. If not, then the TSX works very well, too.

The original X bullets were not accurate in many guns,they often copper fouled,and sometimes,they didn't expand properly.The TSX and TTSX were huge improvements,so there was no reason to continue making the original X bullet.
