Hey guys I deal with an old school guy at a gun shop and he tells me that barnes bullets foul the barrel extremely fast and it is very hard to clean. Does this make sense? Aren't most bullets copper jacketed? Why would a fully copper bullet leave more copper behind. Maybe some of you that have used them could explain it to me.

Barnes bullets are pure copper, which is softer and smears onto the barrel lands easier than gilding copper, which is what most jacketed bullets are made of. The old X bullets had this problem. The newer TSX and TTSX bullets have relief grooves cut in to reduce pressure and bearing surface, which also reduces copper fouling to levels equal to most other bullets.
 
I have 100 140 grain .264 X bullets sitting on my shelf.

I'm ok with cleaning my gun once in a while. I just hope I get a load warm enough to put them to their potential and still have lots left for using them on deer and moose :)
 
Yeah ,what Jordan Smith said .Normal bullets are made with gilding which is a copper alloy containing copper, zink and I can't remember what else.
My old 270 hated the original X but shot pretty good with the TSX.
Wikipedia just told me 95% copper and 5% zink ,technicaly brass.
 
I had a 44 mag that you could not fire more than 3X bullets before it had to be cleaned.You could see the copper plugging the rifleing.Sold the 44.DAN>>>:D
