Barnes = Copper Fouling ?

back to .338 Lapua.........

If you think that copper fouling with Barnes X bullets is a myth, and you wish to accept the Barnes Company's own testimonials as proof, that's fine by me.

But my own PERSONAL experience, with hundreds of rifles and thousands of bullets, has given me conclusions that Barnes might not like. :cool:

Sorry, should have been more clear. I was reffering to the TSX only. I never did care much for the original X's. I now use the 270 gr. TSX in my 378 wby,, and the 185 TSX in my 338 Lapua,both with great accuracy, and no more fouling than I get from other bullets.

back to .338 Lapua..........

By all accounts, the TSX bullets are excellent and have solved the fouling problem associated with the X bullets. But as I said in my post, I have not yet tried them. Sounds like you are driving them in pretty high performance bores!

I went through no fewer than 300 TSX bullets last year developing loads for a .270 and 7x57. There was no unusual fouling.

I believe that the history of excessive copper fouling had more to do with the older style Barnes bullets and has been corrected with the Triple Shock design.

Dan, if I recall correctly you shot a deer and a half with it. Cause there was only half a deer left of the one...........

I can't wait to try loading some 150 Gr TSX .303 Brit for my Le Enfield. It has been relegated to a back up to my .270 Win since I discovered 140Gr TSX .270

No major Copper fouling. Loading 49 Gr of IMR 4350 in .270. Can't wait for the book and ammo to come out.
