I love the 338-06.

Incredible cartridge with modern components and it was no slouch with the components I first loaded into it over 30 years ago.

225 grn Hornady FBILSP with 47N (OEM4350/N160) loaded to 2700fps.

I liked it so much I bought a Clymer reamer, custom ground to .001 in over all minimum spec dimensions and chambered 5 different rifles for it.

Up until a month ago I still had two left, a Custom Winchester Mod 70 and a lovely Ruger No1, which I still have.

I added a detachable magazine to the Model 70 and gave it to my Step Son.

I've always had a good experience with these rifles. Accurate and hit hard, with little meat waste.

Boo, thanx for the pics showing the recovered bullet. I never did use the TTSX bullets in my 338-06 rifles because I've got so many Hornady and Speer offerings on hand from 200-275 grain.

That TTSX performed amazingly and never lost a petal.

I really like the 338-08 as well, which would be a great candidate for those ligher bullets.

With that sort of expansion, I'm thinking you hit a rib as well or were pretty much at point blank range.

Dave, eagleye tells it like it is. TTSX bullets need decent velocities to expand properly and the ranges shouldn't be over 400m.

Most folks aren't capable of shots out that far, because they don't practice enough and that's when things go awry, when you least need them to.

I use TTSX bullets in 223-30 cal and like them. Never shot anything with them, other than a few Coyotes over 300m and they always performed well.

I had the same experience as Eagleye with the early Barnes bullets on a 6x7 shot mulie south to north. I talked to Randy Barnes on the phone and he admitted they had issues with jacket hardness .This was when they first came out now the TTSX all look like the advertisements and do 40" of moose usually with 150gr in a T3 30-06.

Nice, 'Boo..... Your knife looks like it has been on a few hunts, lol. :) Dave.

Hi Dave. Yes that old - ~30 years - American made Buck Light is one of the knives always grab. It has an amazingly "gripable" handle even when wet or greasy and easily sharpens to a nice edge.

If I would have to guess I would say that I have used it on 50+ deer, moose, bear, cougar, and wolf over the years.

It could of but don't think so,it was at last light and hurried because of stalking polar bear.

The triple shock went right through a black bear at a 100 yards the day before.it hit organs and went right through.dead on the spot.

I have mostly used core loct in the past, but decided to try these out.it was my last hunt, there will be no more.i think for the money core locts are danm good, good enough for me.but alot of people don't like them, but that's like all things out there.happy hunting.

A couple of other recovered Barnes Triple Shocks.

Another 210 TTSX out of my 338-06 a few years ago. A "Coup de Grace" into the back of the moose skull from about 20 feet.

A 130 TSX out of one of my .308. Hard quartering-to shot from about 100 yards on a mule deer. Shot was into the shoulder and the bullet was recovered in off-side ham.
