Barnes TSX 168 load for a .300 WSM

Hello, I have been looking at the TSX in a 165 or 168 grain bullet for my 300 WSM. I am currently shooting 180 gr. Interbonds with IMR 4350.

Can someone please tell me the starting and maximum amount of powder using the IMR 4350 for the TSX 165 or 168.

I started I think at 63 gr of H4350 and ended up at 67.0. The load chronied in a Browning 23" barrel at just over 3100 fps. I used Winchester brass and CCI magnum primers.

Give RL19 a try - you won't be sorry. Of all the powders I tested (~10) RL19 gave the best velocties w/ the 168TSX.
 
Thanks guys for your replies. I will probably choose the grain of bullet that I can easily get my hands on although my gun really likes the Interbonds.
 
I never had much luck with the ball powders, probably due to the ES being so high - I couldn't get much consistancy with them. H4831 was pretty consistant, but I couldn't get the velocity (24") I wanted out of it.
 
I picked a load last year oin my 300WSM, which was very accurate, but lackign in velocity for the cartridge- abotu 2950fps.

I used H4831 and 168gr TSX

I got pressure signs a littl etoo early, but of course my rang ework up with 7 differnet loads you coudl cover with a quarter....

As soon as I have time, I will be trying a bunch of other stuff.

I have also found that soem of the really slower powders work very well, like R22, RL 25.

Everyone seems to be jumping at 4350 and RL19 for this cartridge, but I wonder why sometimes....It's got a similar case capacity to the 300WM (a little less) and the 7RM and those cartridges seem to relaly liek the slooow powders.

I intend to try out IMR 7828 SC soon. One way or the other, it's going to end up with 7828, 4350 or 4831, since the Alliant (RL) powders are harder to get rigth now for some reason, and they are 30% more $$$ it seems!:)
 
Yeah I am pretty darn sure the winchester 760 is the powder equivalent. I havent gotten my die for the 300wsm yet, but I am thinking of the 760. I have shot fussion 165 through my gun and have fussion 180 but havent tried them yet. My gun is shooting 1 and a half in groupings at 100 yards with my model 70 (24"). I love the wsm and am not trying to be a premoting whore about it as its my first hunting rifle.

I thought the slower powders would be the way to go, but out of my 24" the 4350's /RL19's really shine. I dont know what comes into play - if it's the capacity or the shape of the case, but for me the faster powder works better.

I've reloaded a fair bit for 300WM and the powders suited for it just don't seem to suit the WSM.
 
Try some IMR 4831 with the 168 tsx .
Im getting 3100 fps with tikka t 3 stainless and nice little cloverleaf groups
