Barnes TSX Data 270win

TSX seem to "behave" like standard bullets (Interlocks, Partitions etc), in terms of powder charge, pressure/velocity.

I'd find an average max load from a number of manuals for 140 grain bullets and a powder you want to try. H4831, RL19, RL22, IMR 7828, & H1000 would all be good choices. Average the max loads and reduce 5%, and work up slowly towards the max. If you have access to a chronograph, even better, use it to chart your progress, and stop when you hit 2900-3000 fps with good accuracy. :)

TSX are awesome hunting bullets.

I have found that the tsx shows pressure signs with slightly less powder than other bullets. However they do produce more velocity before showing pressure signs.Since they produce more velocity with less powder, they make for more efficient loads.

Thanks guys. I was going to work off my 140gr. Accubond/140gr. Horn. BTSP load, reduced and work up of course. I was just wondering what the Barnes manual listed. Right off the bat I'll be trying Reloder22 and H4831SC.

The Accubonds worked fine on my buck last year just trying something different for black bear this spring, maybe elk in the fall.

for the 140 x bullets rl 22 is 55gr with a vel of 2901 fps (min) to 59 gr at 3112 fps(max)
h4831 55gr at 2807 fps (min) to 59 gr at 3011fps (max)
I do believe the powder levels can go higher for the tsx because of the lack of resistence due to the grooves on the slug just work your loads up to a pressure sign and back off a bit
the rl 22 gives the fastes velocity of any of the powders listed in the barnes book

the book uses large rifle primers but you can use mag primers just if you change you are changeing a major component and need to do some load testing

I've always found the 130gr X to be a great performer. I used RL22 and it worked great. The book says (regular X, not TSX) 57.0gr as a start, which gives 3123fps and 62.0gr as a maximum charge, yielding 3254fps. That is with a Federal 210 primer. I used Federal 210M primers. I have found the max load to be stout in just about every rifle I tried it in. In fact, some could not use that heavy a charge. With a 24" barel you should be able to get about 3175-3200fps. I was able to approach the bottom of that spectrum with a 22" barrel.

Edit: I have noticed that the RL22 loads have been reduced in the newer Barnes' manuals. My load is from Barnes #1. You should probably be extra carefull and start with the minimum loads

I have the same experience use 180gr TSX in my 300WM. TSX produces approx 100 fps more than Partitions or Hornady SP.

Accordng the Barnes DVD, when loading TSX one should:
1) Sit the bullet in deeper (I forgot the measurement).
2) Sit the bullet 1/2 way in, rotate the case before completing the process.

I find the TSX more accurate when you find the optimal load.

Well, I loaded some test rounds but I can't get them to function in my 7600. The blunt nose of the TSX hits the bottom of the chamber when chambering. It's not pointing up high enough to chamber properly.

I don't know if my mag spring is weak or what, it shouldn't be it's a new rifle/mag and I never leave rounds in it. Are Remmy mag springs weak? I tried bending the mag lips a bit but nothing worked to get the cartridge to tilt up higher when chambering. Frustrating as hell cause I want to use these bullets.

My other Accubonds and Hornadys load no problems. I did notice though that the tips of the Hornadys were cut a little after chambering.

Any suggestions?

My other Accubonds and Hornadys load no problems. I did notice though that the lead tips of the Hornadys were cut a little after chambering. These bullets are more "pointy" than the TSX, especially the Accubond which makes the tip of the bullet a little higher and chambers properly.

I need to figure out how to get the bullet to point higher out of the mag as it's being chambered. This would center the bullet as it goes into the chamber. Maybe a magazine modification?

try streching the spring in the mag so that the front part of the mag is super compresed and the back half is the same
have you tried seating them out further?
how does your mag fit in the gun (maybe a bit sloppy or is it tight?)

I tried getting the Mag's plastic bottom cover off, but couldn't. That was my though too, to stretch the spring. My initial OAL just fits into the mag. The magazine fits snug. I'm gonna borrow an old style mag (pre-plastic) off a friend and see how that works.
