well I shot my freezer bull moose last Sunday, and I thought Id share some pictures of the bullet performance, for those who might be interested

the bullet I used was the Barnes Triple Shock X 30 caliber 168 gr boat tail. Impact speed was approx. 2300 fps.

on impact, a large puff of steam exited both sides of the moose, he fell to his haunches, rolled back onto his side

Thanks once again, Tod, for another informative post.

Where were you hunting? How far was the shot? (By the velocity, I'm assuming it was over 250 yards).

By the way, I'm using the same bullet out of my .30-06. I have an LEH for doe Mule Deer near Williams Lake. In your opinion, would that bullet be suitable for such a small animal? Would it open effectively and do enough damage to put a deer down, or is it only suited to bigger animals like moose?

A Picture perfect shot with Excellent Bullet results I'd say:)

Those Bullets are Really Peaking my Curiousity......I played with the Original X bullets, and XBT Molies etc. but Looks like the TSX will get some Experimentation over the Winter.
I'm looking at the 130 grain 6.5's for a "Do all" load to Replace the Partitions.
Dam tough to argue with Your Results,
Thanks for taking the time to Enlighten us

Once again, we see why Tod Bartell is known as one of the *Premier* members of CGN.

A great, informative post, with graphic illustration of a *new* bullets performance on game.

Thank you to Tod Bartell, Premier Member of CGN.

Nice post, Tod. The performance of your TSX on the moose is very similar to the field performance of my TSX 130 gr .270 win handloads on whitetails. Small going in, devastating internal damage, big hole going out, clean, complete pass-through.
How can you hate it:p

Very nice documentation Tod...thank you for this. Looks like these might be just the ticket for my new 375 H&H for "Bear loads" ;) !

Great Information! I built up a load using the 165's for my new 300 win mag and I will hopefully get to see some similar results myself this year.

I chose the 165's over the 168's as Barnes website showed the BC of the 165 at .505 vs. the 168 at .476. However, I've found that depending how you access barnes site, they also show the 165 BC at .380 VS the 168 at .404??? If you google "barnes tsx" you will get the barnes page showing the higher BC's but if you navigate to the same page through barnes homepage by going to 'products' and then 'tsx' you will get the lower BC's. Does anybody know what the real scoop is on the BC's of these bullets?

Either way I have heard that the 168's are a bit more accurate bullet than the 165 so I think I will try them next time.

Thanks again for the great info!

K

Barnes got sued for false advertising with their old BCs, I guess they werent tested too well.

the new BCs, are the low ones

doesnt phase me a bit, just a couple inches more wind drift at extreme range on paper! :runaway:

Those pics are consistent with the results I got last year, realtively small entry and exit holes with masive internal damage, basically strawberry jam from lung matter.
