I have a box of Barnes"X" bullets in 180 grain,flatbase.....Looking for a good place to start for this critter

Also have a box of Speer Grand Slams in 165 grain

Want to run them through my T3 308 with Varget powder

It's not absolutley crucial to use these bullets, just have them on hand and would like to try them out and see...the rifle shoots factory 180 grain ammo really well, figured I'd give em a go..

Thanks in advance for any help and info on loads

I used IMR4320 with the 165's and 180's with the best results.
H414 proved to be very accurate behind the 180's.
IMR 4064 wouldn't be a bad choice either.
All loads used the CCI250 primer, mostly because that's all I had.

Be prepared for extreme copper fouling with the x bullet. However the tsx does not share this problem.

How Bad are we talking....like excessivley...maybe I'll just sell them and get some different ones:confused:

I had a hard go with the X's (165gr flat base) in my 308 as well. They would always put the first two through the same hole and the third was always 1 1/4" off to the side, in any given direction.
The Grand slams usually shot MOA or a bit over but they had a more triangular grouping on paper.
The x's I used were made in about `98 and they would whistle right through my Muley like they were a FMJ.
If it were me, I'd save the Barnes stuff for the faster 30 caliber rifles. The grand slams will work better at the velocities you will get in a 308. That is only what I have found through my experiences. FWIW.

Just one more problem that the tsx doesn't share. The nose cavity is different and they expand quite well. They are also very accurate in most rifles, unlike the original x.
