Barrel band

Is this "barrel band" what one would use to mount a front sight post to a barrel should one want to use iron sights?

Are they made to spec for various barrel contours or do you need the barrel cut to a certain specification?

That's peculiar. They used to ship gun parts if the total was less than $100 all told. Recent change maybe?

Many items seem to be regulated now. I am not aware of all the regulations, but from the received message, it seems that the manufacturer has now to be registered regarding exportation. The 100-200$ rule is not sufficient.

@Tikka Yes, they are used to mount iron sights, and are proposed in various sizes. You barrel has to fit one of them.

It is always best if the end of the barrel is turned parallel to .812" or .750". If you have a slight taper you can jam is on and it will work. I make them out of aluminum and can make the any size you want. Mine also have the dovetail machine into them. This avoids the 2 additional screws (that could come loose) to hold the dovetail on.

In my opinion, a fixed dovetail base is subject to debate. I agree that it prevents the additional screws, and that can be seen as an advantage. However, the height of the dovetail should ideally depends on the rear sight too, as if this one has fine adjustment possibilities, it often also has limited operation range (I experienced it with Anschutz diopters). Depending on the rear/front sights combinations, and also possibly the shooting distance, some sight elevators could have to be used too, so that the screws issue is back. On this point of of view, an band without a fixed dovetail can accommodate various dovetail bases, and therefore limit the use of elevators.

In any case, do you have any picture of your barrel bands? How much do you charge for them?

The standard Anshutz configuration is about 1 3/8" from the centreline of the bore to the centre line of the sight. This will work from 20 yards to 100 yards with a fine 1/6 moa standard Anshutz rear sight. I have use this same configuration on my fullbore rifles and it works out to 1000 yards. These days about 90% of the long range shooters have gone to ladder front sights.
