In the case I consider, the barrel end is turned to .812".
In my opinion, a fixed dovetail base is subject to debate. I agree that it prevents the additional screws, and that can be seen as an advantage. However, the height of the dovetail should ideally depends on the rear sight too, as if this one has fine adjustment possibilities, it often also has limited operation range (I experienced it with Anschutz diopters). Depending on the rear/front sights combinations, and also possibly the shooting distance, some sight elevators could have to be used too, so that the screws issue is back. On this point of of view, an band without a fixed dovetail can accommodate various dovetail bases, and therefore limit the use of elevators.
In any case, do you have any picture of your barrel bands? How much do you charge for them?
