Hi I have a sporterized 91/30 and have installed a clamp on bipod on the end of the barrel behind front sight. I realize my poi would be different if I was standing and shooting vs laying prone with bipod extended. Do you think the poi would be different enough that it would affect hunting accuaracy? I am gonna go and test it at the range but wont be able to awhile, its raining out and Im bored. Do any you have bipods installed on your barrel or does everyone install the bipod onto your stock?

just rest it on sandbags just forward of the magazine on the fore stock if you want to bench rest shoot. Then when you shoot standing then the POI will be no different.

Its been said that Mosins do not benefit, accuracy wise , from barrel mounted bipods. Bags/rests are best.

Hello,

Imagine your barrel as a Slinky.

Each time you shoot, it vibrates the same way, or close to the same way. The very minute difference have a huge impact on downrange precision.

Now, if you put a bipod on the barrel, the Slinky is broken. No matter how good you are, you still have micro-tremors in your muscles. When you load the bipod, the weight will change very little from shot to shot, but it will be enough to affect point of impact change for each shot, and your precision will suffer.

If you want to go the bipod route, mount it on the stock. Even better, go the sandbag route like the others are saying. I like to get down as low on the ground as possible and shoot off a sandbag or field pack. I've tried shooting from the bench but I'm no good that way; my center of gravity is too high.

Regards,

Josh
