Barrel Blanks

Bits of Pieces re-barreled a Storm to non-restricted for a buddy of mine and refused to return the original barrel. Probably sold it. Won't deal with him again.

That is because the oem barrel was a restricted device.
I went through this with Barry several years ago.
I didnt do the restricted conversion to non because I found a non-restricted for about $100 cheaper than doing the conversion route.
Feel free to not like dealing with Barry, but there is always more to the original story ...
I see Jerry has stepped up to offer his expertise too .Thk

Hmmm, to my knowledge, there isn't an issue with a "restricted length device" such as a barrel. You may be getting the law confused with barrels in the "prohibited" class which have a classification of their own.

You need a special addendum to your license to have "prohibited devices'' but your RPAL covers "restricted'' devices.

If he could own the original storm he could own the takeoff barrel….

For a non-restricted PAL ?

Coles Notes 2.0, I would pay for the R version Storm...RPAL buddy would take possession and deliver to Barry's shop.
I would pay for the work and legal work to be done.
Gun would then be de-reggied Restricted transferred into my name.
All above board... nothing to hide .
Just the personal satisfaction of being able to buy a de-reggied Restricted gun in a drawn out process.
My point was that slagging a shop owner on second hand info is well.....never mind.
Gerald, my method may have been flawed , but there was a will and a way to do something unique imo and imo only.
As for Barry, some like him, some dont and some know how to work with him .

Rob

I don't think that is completely true; a barrel which is underlength, and / or 25 or 32 caliber is a prohibited device. If the gun is rebarreled to restricted, then the old barrel , in the eyes of the government, means creating a new prolhib and even the owner of the gun cannot possess it, even if he is a 12(6) grandfather.
What I am not sure about is now that all handguns are prohibited, whether or not it is legal to rebarrel a handgun in any way which changes its registered details. Eg I suspect you cannot legally put a longer barrel on a formerly restricted handgun because the government would probably say you created a new prohib

The only barrels that are prohibited devices are handgun barrels less than 105mm long, which are not part of a registered 12-6 handgun.
.25 and .32 handgun barrels are prohibited devices only if less than 105mm in length.
