Barrel blockage

Yup Me too ! But all my tikkas lock the bolt down on safety! :d RJ

No one has sued Tikka yet ...

Some rifles have a safety that locks the bolt down plus a release that allows the bolt to open with the safety still engaged... that's one feature of the Browning X Bolt...

Thank the lawyers in the US with the all the lawsuits for that ... it was argued in court that the old style trigger with the bolt locking safety was unsafe because you had to disengage the safety in order to remove a loaded round ... so Remington lost over a million dollars and as part of the settlement recalled all the triggers with a bolt locking ability.

guntech,
The Custom Shop would install the bolt lock safeties if requested.

I bought one hundred of the various bolt lock safety levers from Remington for $1 each USD... 30+ yrs ago.

OK,I'll let the cat out of the bag-

Those who are smarter than the equipment that they are operating-

IF,a Rem 2 lug bolt action breech clearance is correct(.015"or less)

Insert a round in the chamber.
Cycle the bolt into battery w/ index finger above & middle finger below the knob while releasing the trigger w/ your ring finger.

Yes, there is firing pin protrusion touching said primer.

The above condition will NOT go BANG.

I have won thousands of USD dollars proving know-it-all....WRONG.

Once the cash or check books appear,I would fetch the 1/4"x 6" long brass rod & 4Lb drilling hammer out of the tool box in the back of my truck.
Rifle is in a bench rest w/ loaded round in the chamber, firing pin de-cocked as described above...put up the $100 cash/Dead Ben Franklin or break out the check book & pen ready to loose a "C" Note.
Place the 1/4" brass punch into the aft end of the firing pin shroud & against the firing pin striker & smack it w/ the drilling hammer...Pay Up!!!!

Some learn a valuable lesson...when they loose money!!

My friend's brother-in-law always take the bolt out when he put his gun in the hard gun case (don't know why). On one hunting trip after a 1/2 hour ride on an ATV, he got drop off at his deer stand. When he got comfy in the stand and ready to load his rifle he realize he forgot to put the bolt in the rifle.
This could be a case of following the most onerous firearm restrictions for full auto firearms regardless of the action type as a sort of "fail safe" compliance.
There are times when being overly cautious can cause danger and this thread is a great example.

So Dan, please explain why, when a firing pin is driven into a primer as you describe above, why does it not go bang? That makes no sense to me. Does your experiment end up with a firing pin impression on the primer? What if you tap the firing pin more than once?

I would be using a much lighter hammer, more in the area of a few ounces... and firmly... and I don't understand why it would not fire.

I don't really care if whacking the back end of a Rem 700 firing pin, with a hammer, when it is in the forward position results in the primer igniting or not. It strikes me as a REALLY STUPID and POINTLESS thing to do. But that's just me I guess.

I suppose people could bet on wether whacking themselves in the forehead with a hammer would hurt, but then why would you want to do that in the first place?

There are some things that are just not worth finding out.

guntech,
yes there is a small firing pin impression.
primers are percussion & there is NOT enough travel/momentum to ignite said primer in any Rem 2 lug bolt/receiver.
The bolt nose in the barrel counterbore & the forward face of each bolt lug in the barrel will NOT allow destination.

DO NOT ATTEMPT the above w/ any other rifle/receiver.PERIOD.

I Don't Care About You-
Since you are not smarter than the equipment that you are operating.....do NOT experiment.
It's individuals like yourself that I will gladly prove them WRONG & take their money to teach them a lesson.

I have no need to attempt it in any firearm.

You aren't going to teach me a lesson and I'd never bet money on something so blindingly stupid. I don't care what happens when you hit a rifle bolt with hammer because it's a stupid thing to do, regardless of the result. The irony you are missing is you talk about being smart yet you do something so dumb, 99.999% of people would never even consider doing it.
