Personally, on a non-high end precision rifle, the break in should be SHOOT IT!!!!

You're unlikely to wear out a chrome lined barrel in your lifetime. Accuracy improvements in a SR are unlikely to be seen.

Personally, I think the barrel 'break in' is more of a plot by barrel makers to burn more barrels, and increase sales. :)
 
I'm thinking of something like 5 'one shot then clean' cycles to polish the throat a bit. I don't think I have the patience for much more. Will this noticeably improve the accuracy potential from a rest or am I wasting my time doing benchrest type prep on a service rifle?

For a chrome lined barrel, the break in is, as others said, SHOOT IT.

Clean it well first.
