Barrel Break In ???

I broke in my .308 roughly following the shoot & clean instructions from Kreiger. The only things I did differenty was to shoot with a clean bore bore wet with Gun Juice - and I am now a convert - and I dragged the break in period out to 50 rounds.

I have not put a bronze brush down that bore, just two patches soaked in Sweets, then work the rod back and forth to ensure the entire bore surface is wet. I leave one patch in the muzzle and one in the bore guide to stop airflow. Fifteen minutes later the bore is patched out and has come clean each time without requiring a second treatment of Sweets. Gun Juice is applied - again working two patches back and forth to ensure all bore surfaces are covered and shooting resumes.

Did going to this trouble make any difference? Well, the barrel cleans up very quickly, and I've shot some groups which reqired measuring the outside of the group and subtracting the bullet diameter to get a center to center measurement.

Custom barrels don't need break-in, while it is said that factory barrels do just to "polish" it. Seriously, ask about the Gunjuice; it increases your rifle's velocity as well.

Most factory barrels are sighted in at the factory. So you already have 5-10 shots thru them before you get them. They do not clean between shots. Just adjust the sights!!!!!

Got your PM Long range canuck and thanks it is the way I am going to go.
Talked with my local gun shop last night his advice was almost word for word
I will be going to the range ( gravel pit really ) this week end and will let every one know

Remington 700P's don't have sights :).

no to tell you the truth I had a accident with the gun and I fired a shot through the rifle while there was a broken piece of cleaning rod stuck in the barrel , so all that I was able to shoot through the rifle that I have been waiting for like 8 months was 8 or 9 shots.
so things have been crazy around here with the hunt coming and trying to figure out what to do about the barrel . WOW do I ever wish this did not happen . Did not receive any personal injury so at the end of the day I am very fortunate.
So I can not tell you much about the dies yet but I will get this going and I will build fine rounds some day !!!

Trout Seeker you have a PM.
