Been procrastinating for a year and a half whether to brown my Jeager.Took it to range the other day and it was rusty by the time I got it home, that's what prompted me to brown the barrel and lock etc

I browned my hawken with Plum browning. Heated the barrel up and applied the chemical until I got a consistant color. I think that traditional ml's look way better browned than blued.

It was a real pain every time you took it out,had to polish the surface rust out.Especially living on the Wet Coast. It was supposed to develop a "patina",didn't think I'd live long enough to see that.
I use Laurel Mountain browning, just polish it white and basically apply 5 coats every 3hrs.Scrubbing with a piece of denim to even it out.H
How does that compare to the Hot Treatment Gilly ?
I was taking a pic of my T/C to post in the E/E, still had the latex gloves on from browning, where I handled the barrel it started browning right through the blueing.
So got another barrel to brown.Pics to follow.

Your method sounds harder but safer. I was breathing in steam from the chemical while applying it.....not so smart. I did my hawken 8 years ago or so, and in time the browing has almost deepend, I did it when I lived in Port Hardy, and I remember having to constantly wipe rust off of ot, but never any pitting, it turned out very nice.

Just finished a couple more. Or what did i do on my vacation while it was raining.
First on is a Thompson Center Hawken

Nice... I've never browned before - don;t even know the process. Something about heat and constant wiping? Can someone list the steps involved? I may possibly do a couple guns if it's a worthwhile endeavor.
