Barrel brush on smooth bore shotgun barrel?

When cleaning a smooth bore shotgun barrel do you use barrel brush, just like you would use on a rifled barrel?

I use the big cotton tampon looking thing that came in my kit from Le Barons. But I have used a brush on it, no worries!

A brush works great to loosen up some of the crap that has be beaten on the inside by shot.

A couple of passes then some solvent and some sort of pad to mop up.

I find than no-name brand super cheap tampons cut in half are great for cleaning. Found the tip on box 'o truth website, hehe

Here is a link to the Ed's Red recipe for a cleaner. The trick to cleaning a smooth bore barrel is to remove the plastic. The acetone is what does it best. Great stuff and cheap. Use a brass brush or tornado brass brush.

The best shotgun cleaner I've found is a long dowel with a 2" cut in the end into which I place an appropriately sized rectangular piece of that heavy duty scouring pad stuff. The ones I use are called 'scotch brite' but any brand will do. The stuff carries solvent or oil well and scrubs aggressively but without fear of marring a polished bore. For really neglected barrels you can spin the dowel in a hand drill. Works great and is the easiest and fastest method I've yet tried.

I use a bore snake on all my shotguns. Leaves them mirror clean and only takes a few seconds. Actions get cleaned semi anually.
