Been thinking g of maybe getting a barrel camera to help with my wing shooting and also thought it might be good when teaching the grandkids to shoot shotgun. I have seen videos of the shotkam and it looks quite good but $$$$. Just wondering if there is any experience with different brands and what y'all think. Also, is a barrel camera useful for teaching kids??.

I think it could help if they are consistently missing for the same reason. Say always behind or high or low. My buddy has one and sends me the footage of his duck hunts. I think it has really helped him learn his gun

I think there is some value in a shotkam for a lot of shooters but more so for the newer ones. I find the biggest problem is that it's difficult to see the shot string at longer ranges, larger shot and having the sun in the right place helps but they're really at their best inside of 40 yards or so. Also, if you have clear blue sky as a background then there is nothing to judge target or gun speed with and everything appears to stand still so having a few clouds around or a fence line, maybe a tree or two helps.

Bit of a old post but thought id chime in.
Iv had cheep Amazon gun cameras and even tactacam one. Just recently got a shotkam gen 4 for Christmas and my god!! Hands down the best i have used. The ease to set up and the adjustability on the app is fantastic!!

When you buy a Shotkam you only have the manufacturer to buy from. they don't sell to dealers. For Canadian buyers the price is quoted in Canadian dollars with all applicable taxes etc. Subscribe to their emails. They almost always are running specials. I bought mine on a Father's day promotion at $150 off.

Thanks for the info. The reason for my inquiry, was a member at the one club I shoot bought one a few weeks ago. He told me how he purchased and what he paid. I attempted to buy one as he told me but it was almost $300 more than he paid. He said the quoted everything in Canadian dollars and paid the shipping so the end price was what he seen on the website. He bought the newest version which is the 4. When I checked the website it was a lot more than his price. Maybe he got it on some special new year price. I’ll recheck with him next Sunday when I shoot again. The video from the cam is very impressive !

Will say there warranty is superb as well ,,my hunting pard and me both bought one his was left in the blind during a atmospheric river ,was washed out they replaced it no questions asked.I use mine but maybe not as much as I should..

This weekend I attached a ShotKam to my shotgun (borrowed from a friend) . I started missing low house targets from most positions on the skeet range. I was getting lots of "help" from my squad mates but did not improve. The video quality is very good and you can slow the video down to see where the shot pattern is as the target flies by. Hoping to improve things this weekend!

Unless your squadmates are A through AAA class skeet shooters in all 4 gauges I'd ignore them. Go on youtube, search Sunrise Productions and look for videos by Todd Bender. You'll learn more watching and practicing what he teaches than any "help" from the average shooter.
