Barrel Change on Restricted Glocks?

I'm a little confused here guys. Questar (I think) is selling prohib glocks that have a non original barrel fitted (long enough to meet the 106mm req.) so that they can be registered as restricted.

Is this legal? Can't someone just go out and buy the original barrel without a 12(6) and refit it to make yourself a prohib gun illegally? :confused:

Um, yes? But like you said, it would be illegal. And you would not be able to buy such a barrel in Canada. I suppose you could also take a hacksaw to a shotgun barrel and make yourself an illegal sawed off shotgun. Or tie a couple of pieces of wood together and make illegal nunchucks. Or you could illegally mow down some pedestrians with your car. But I suppose this illustrates the difference between the law abiding and criminals ... and the absurdity of the laws that control only those of us with neither the inclination nor desire to break them.
 
That's basically what I was getting at: the absurdity of the law. If the materials are available (the prohib barrel which apparently isn't) what's the damn point of having a restricted and prohib class if all you need to do is buy the gun legally, buy the barrel legally and voila you now have a prohib.

There is no point. If you try make sense of Canada's gun laws all you will get is a headache.
 
this leads me to my next question then: what was it like before the gun registry? Were there still classes (restricted, non and prohib)? If so, how did the gov't regulate the trading of firearms if there is no record of 'who has what.'

Sorry if I come off ignorant, I'm just too young to know any better....:redface:

Handgun barrels less than 106mm are prohibited devices in Canada.
 
DAR 701 is correct...you cannot buy a barrel less than 106mm in length as it is entirely prohibited to have one in the first place without your specific class on you licence 12(6) i think(correct me if I am wrong on the class thingy)

Yes a person could simply cut the barrel down. Except that's illegal. A person could also drill out the rivets in their pinned mags. Except that's illegal too. These laws have been passed to save lives. Someone robbing a bank or out on a shooting spree is forced to own a gun with a longer less concelable barrel and a magazine that holds fewer rounds. They aren't going to go modifing the gun before hand, that's illegal.

The law was passed because we all know that criminals take at least 33 shots out of their Glock before they can land 1. This is for the safety of all Canadians. They have worked it out that criminals only now have a .01% chance of hitting their mark. Do not question the law, they theory is undeniable.
