Hey, what product do you guys use to clean your rifle/shotguns barrels with a boresnake??? I used Remington Britebore for years, and they don't make it anymore. Seems like most people use a CLP sprayed down the bore and then boresnake??

I typically use Hoppes CLP, cleans and lubes at the same time. Seems to work pretty well.
I wanted to make my own "Ed's Red" solution but one batch would last me a few lifetimes.
Although I usually run a really wet patch, let it sit a while, then run a brush, then more patches, before doing the boresnake.
It keeps them cleaner... maybe I am an over-achiever.

I use G96, which is basically the same thing but I find it works better in the cold than Balistol.
As far as bore snakes…I find the Viper models to be too thick for the bores. With the Viper snakes you need 2 people in most cases, every other model one person has no issues with it.
For some reason the Vipers require massive amount of pull. I have two vipers 270 and 3006 and for both I had to get a different model snakes.
Thought I share my experience with others, so you dont waste your money.
Oh, and I also use g96, works just fine for my gun needs and works real well for all kind of locks during winter time.

I know 2 guys that had a boresnake break in the barrel.They are a real pain to get out.....

We LOVE boresnakes. As previously mentioned IF you can get a broken one out it is a royal #####. More often that not they cannot be removed from the barrel which means a rebarrel job. We see between 6 and 10 rebarrel jobs every year due to boresnakes, which is why we love them but do NOT endorse their use.
Yup. Quick tool to make sure the bore is free of obstructions, that's it. It doesn't really clean the barrels properly, but it's better than nothing. - dan
I've had the rope part break off from the thicker part, but was still able to remove them.
I've found them tight, but not overly tight most of the time.
I tend to finish the clean with them, but the real cleaning is done with patches and stuff.

I've not used bore snakes. Quick way to screw up a muzzle crown fer sure.

I only use a bore snake on shotguns and it's important to cut off the excess material at the knot where they tie it to the drawstring, otherwise they can be too tight in the bore and break the drawstring.
