barrel Crowning tool

Cut it down a few inches?
How many would be a "few inches"?
Barrel is 20". Below 18 1/2" it becomes restricted. Below 18", prohibited.
So how many inches are you going to cut it down?

He wants to cut to 18.5 then add the brake

Yes. He says break + stock length is too long. Thus cut first to 18.5". OP check your metric to imperial conversion for the exact length it must be above (I want to say 18.5" is just barely under the actual length required?), and don't forget to leave a bit extra if you #### up and need to either cut it again or make it square.

Lots of people do crowns with a brass screw and valve lapping compound rather than buying expensive tools. Considering the accuracy of most sks, I would try that before I spend hundreds on a special tool.

For an sks...hacksaw, belt sand true, brass carriage bolt with slotted head chucked up with valve lap compound, thumb with some 1000 grit and oil then finish the inside crown edge with a dremmel rubber compound polishing tips(come in many shaped sizes) done a few like this. Your not gonna hurt accuracy on these things onless you chop it on an angle and send the POI into the next province. If its a $1000 rifle and you plan on doing many down the road buy the crowning tool.

That Manson tool looks pretty good. The Brownell tool can chatter on ‘some’ barrels. Its hard to beat a lathe operated by someone who knows what they are doing

On a 3030 with a bad crown, spitting bullets out side ways. So as not to alter the looks I milled 1 inch in to barrel a couple of thousands over .310 or .311. Shot straight after that and no-one could tell un less giving it a close look.
