Barrel extensions can be re-used if you can get them off.
However, they do require some skill in installing as this is what determines the headspace.
Also, the gas port ismade after the extension is installed. So, if you are using an old extension, make sure the new barrel is virgin (i.e. no gas port).
It's definitely not as simple as swapping barrels.
