Hey gang, I'm looking to replace my stock barrel with a aftermarket one. I want a 16-18" bull barrel, any suggestions what kind and where to buy one?

I would highly recommend a KIDD barrel. I have built quite a few and these barrels just always perform. You’ll not be disappointed. Dlask sells Kidd stuff and their own barrels are well made.

Based on my experience recently...I have one kidd bb and one green mountain bb...if you are stuck on a bb...get the green mountain. Difficult to see a difference between the two. Nine35.ca

Dlask uses green mountain blanks, Kidd and Volquartsen use walther blanks. Just buy a green mountain barrel.

Bits and pieces and other places sell em
Pretty sure Walther blanks are world recognized. Im not sure Green mountains won any major shooting competition. I know Walther has and many many times. If your just shootin pop cans in a pit then the Green mountain cheap barrels will more than fill ur plate. If your trying for the best accuracy the green mountain wont hold a candle to the Kidd.

Nothing wrong with Green Mountain barrels, or Volquartsen or SBI or Shaw or Tacsol or Kidd or IBI. I have 5 Kidd barrels they are the Lite Weight style so won't be in the same accuracy category as their HB match.
The GM tapered HB I have shoots very well, as does the VQ and IBI HB. All have certain ammo that they prefer.
Unless your shooting Bench Rest or other similar competition and have the skill and rest of the equipment to match, I'm not sure if any of the mentioned barrels will stand that far apart.
What type of shooting are you planning for your 1022?

Is it worth putting a Kidd/IBI/Volquartsen or on a ruger 10/22 stainless action or are you guys generally putting these on higher end clones?

Like pretty much any rifle the receiver don’t matter. Ruger doesn’t make stainless 10/22 actions vq does, amt and moa? did in the past. Both moa and amt have been defunct for a long time.

Good point, the barrel is stainless but the receiver is alloy. Worth upgrading the barrel, or should one just go for a gucci receiver while going through the effort?

DLASK, Green Mountain, KIDD, or IBI are your precision/higher end options.
SBI makes some more budget friendly barrels too but I have not had any previous experience with them.
Green mountain and DLASK shot almost identical since they are the same blanks, but my Dlask is a CF barrel.
The stock ruger target barrel is heavier than normal, you may find someone on EE selling that after upgrading theirs to a custom make too.

Among the ones I have, I would recommend a IBI if you can afford it. They can stack bulk ammo into the same holes at 70m.

Just get a tuff 22 and run those 15 round mags.

They come with added 20 round storage on the mag, and another 22 round stripper clip you can hot swap without removing the mag from the gun
that's 62 rounds per mag.
Just keep in mind, the barrel fitment is tight from the ano so having some lapping paste will be handy. If you don't know what lapping paste is, have your local shop install it.

^the mags aren’t available, aren’t particularly reliable. If you want any decent gunsmith can cut any 10/22 receiver to take the mags.

Dlask is fading into oblivion

My rifle with a Kidd lightweight barrel shoots CCI standard velocity very well, 10 rounds within around 1 inch area at 50 yards, and using SK long range, it lands 20 rounds in a 1.5 x 2 cm area at 50 yards. A guy copied all my setup after seeing that.

Other barrels can be great too but I am not qualified to have opinions.
