My father gave me his Browning auto 5, 20 gauge,3 inch magnum full choke.
He shot a lot of steel shot through it, with no apparent damage to the barrel.
I'm worried about continuing to do this , as everything I read says it's not a good practice.
Are barrels available for these guns? I don't want to open the choke, as I would like to keep it original if possible.

An A-5 20 gauge with the 3 inch receiver is unique in itself.
I wouldn't pester it anymore with the chance of harming her.
I finally found one with the 2 3/4" receiver that needed a wee bit of tinkering
to make it work right.
I lucked out with a modified choke.
My suggestion would be to keep the gal for shooting upland birds only.

Never seen a spare barrel for a 20 gauge in my travels.
I do recall the conversation with WGP's in regards to my asking of certain parts
for the one here that was in need.
I was told that A-5 20 gauge parts are a rare commodity and when in stock,
they diminish rather quickly.

Just my nickels worth.

My buddy had the same problem. Finally had a good smith open the choke to IMP MOD. Patterned steel #2's very nicely and still shot full choke patterns with good quality 3" lead loads. There was absolutely no obvious change to the gun's appearance.

It would be possible to get briley to install thinwall chokes for you. Flush for lead shooting with no change to appearance and extended that are rated for steel, I don't know why extended to get the steel safe rating but that was what I was told directly from briley.
As far as barrels go Hastings used to make A5 barrels with choke tubes but I don't know if they are in business or even have a Canadian distributor.

I don't own guns I don't shoot, and am not going to part with it.
Can any body suggest a really good shotgun smith in B.C.
I shoot ducks and geese usually with 2's in my 12 gauge, what choke would you suggest?
I haven't heard of IMP MOD always one or the other.

Reliable has more than a two week processing time.
There is Barry at Bits of Pieces then there is Italian Sporting Goods in Vancouver or Dalask on Tillbury Island and even GunTeck who is a member here who might have some advice for you and he is located on Southern Vancouver Island.
These shops are in the Lower Mainland of BC so either close enough or two far.
The choice is yours as is the choke, but a Modified will do wonders in either steel or lead .
