I prefer to deepen the hole into the threads a bit. Then again, I'm making my own index pins, and appreciate a positive fit.

Didn't mention before, but it is important to use the proper tools to hold the barrel and barrel extension when the extension is torqued onto the barrel.

If you're making your own pins I can see it. I find the premade pins are short enough that drilling into the threads can set them too deep.

The pins are a bit long when set into place. I dress them down to clear the barrel nut.

Oh and no intention of putting on a flash hider. Barrel is 20.5" and would not need to be cut.
