I am looking into getting my first shotgun. The Winchester SXP Black Shadow has great reviews and and appealing price for my budget. It comes in a 18", 24" and 28" barrel length. Now I do not have my hunting license yet but am looking into getting it. For the time being I will be doing trap, skeet and target. What length is the most inappropriate for my needs? It also comes in 3" and 3 1/2" with a price difference of $50. Any info would be greatly appreciated, and who ever owns this gun and would like to give me their experienced opinion please feel free.

Thanks!

Great choice! I love my SXP. 18' is a terrible choice for hunting. Also it doesn't come in 24" just 26" and 28". I personally spent the extra 50$ for the 3.5" and 28" Barrel. If you want to save a bit of weight I would get the 26". But in reality there isn't a big difference in the 2" of BBL. Most waterfowlers choose the longest barrel they can get, and I believe Skeet/Trap also like longer barrels. The extra 2" would be a tiny bit little harder to walk through the woods.

yea I wasn't sure if it was 24 or 26. Thanks for the reply. I know of 1 place locally that has a 26" for 349 in the 3". Not sure if they have the 3 1/2 in stock. Would you jump on it even know its a 26 over a 28? I just want to get something that is all around and has many uses.

I paid a little over $400 for mine, I got the camp and field combo. Comes with a 28" barrel with 3 chokes and an 18" defender cylinder choked barrel. Great gun for the money. I use it for trap and skeet with great success. The lack of recoil makes it ideal for small framed adults and young shooters.
IMO one of the most overlooked shoguns on the market.
