So this may sound like a stupid question but oh well here goes:
do muzzle devices count towards barrel length when coming from a manufacturer? for example... If a company is offering a 7 inch AR upper... is that 7 inches INCLUDING the factory installed muzzle device? or only counting up to the threaded end of the barrel?
Im curious because im doing an SBR build and am looking for a free float rail to go with it, but cannot figure out what length to get. If I get a 7 inch barrel (that includes the muzzle device) then I can simply get a 7 inch rail. However if the muzzle device is extra (say... an extra 2 inches)... then it would technically be 9 inches long. Meaning that for the look I want, a 7 inch rail would be too short, and the 10 inch rails would be too long.
Can someone please clear this up for me?
