barrel length? to cut or not to cut

The other thing to consider is that once your barrel is cut, the bore may not be in the centre of the muzzle anymore. I've seen this happen before and it looks like crap. I would sell the rifle and go get yourself an off the shelf hunting rifle like a Ruger Compact or Remington Model 7 and go shoot some moose and deer.

That's exactly what happened when I had the barrel on my 9.3X62 shortened by 3.75 inches. The bore at the muzzle of shortened barrel was about .040" off center. The rifle continued to shoot very well but having the bore that far off drove me nuts every time I looked at it. I ended up having the barrel re-profiled so the muzzle bore was centered. The rifle continues to shoot very well.

Here's a couple of pictures of each end of the 3.75" barrel stub.

Not just after it's cut, I had a Remington 700 stainless that was like that from the factory, drove me nuts every time I looked at it, so I sold it.
