Barrel length + - = Velocity Question

Need some help. Reloading 25-06 IMR 4350 53.3grs, 100 gr Bullet which results in a Muzzle velocity of 3300 from 24in barrel as per Hornady Reload book from 1980`s. My question is *

I have a 22inch barrel so what would be my velocity?? and i have no access to chronograph.

Ah this could be a long thread.

Rifle to rifle variation is a major factor and you could actually have a 22" bbl that is close to, or if you're real lucky, faster than the 24" barrel.

That being said, shorter barrels means slower as a rule.

However, if the data you list is from a reloading manual, instead of a buddy's actual data he recorded with a chrony, you may be in for another unpleasant surprise - book data is very often highly optimistic. I've seen loads doing an honest 200 fps slower than the book stated they should. More than once.

How fast is your bullet going? Honestly no way to know but measure it.

In my experience , 15-20 ft/sec per inch realistically.

Depends a bit on the type/efficiency of the powder as well.

I would have said you wouldn't notice a pinch of coon manure between the 22 and 24 inch barrels.

The 3300fps data is from my 1980`s Hornady reloading book.

My expereince has been about 25 fps per inch. But your velocity is probably 100 fps less than book

The bottom line is....you will not know what velocity you are actually getting in that 22" tube until you run a few rounds across a chronograph.
