Barrel length with 300wsm

Other than the obvious loss in velocity and energy, does anyone know if there is a ballistic "down-side" to a 300wsm with an 18" (or 19", 20")barrel? I'm talking bullet stability and/or accuracy. I know there's going to be more muzzel lifting and noise so don't bother commenting on this. I've got a Browning A-bolt and am considering choping it down a bit. It's got a 1 in 10" turn rifling.

I think it would be fine at 18". What is the barrel length of the a-bolt? Aren't they a 23"? I would give it a try at 20", I notice the difference when I switch rifles and go 24" to 22", 3" would be a pretty decent chunk off the end. Much easier to handle in tight quarters.
 
Stability should not change(with bullet weight, bullet change, come stability issues as per twist). Your velocity will be slightly less, but you can remedy this a little by changing the powder or charge weight. Faster burning for less volume of bore (efficiency). This again is dependent on the bullet weight. For accuracy.. if it is a stock barrel then no. If it is cut down then the crown needs to be true to the bore. If this is not done proper the groups may spread a bit. Some would say that a light gun and barrel like that, with the recoil will affect accuracy but I disagree. Before you know it the bullet is 75-100 yards down range. I really believe that every rifle is accurate as long as it is fed the proper food.
